UNILAG INAUGURATES OMBUDSMAN COMMITTEE

 
Authorities of the University of Lagos have inaugurated an Ombudsman Committee to appease grievances of members of staff of the University. The Committee is for a period of two years, with effect from February 9, 2015 to February 8, 2017.
The 4-man Committee was inaugurated on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Rahamon A. Bello, FAEng along with the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and Research), Professor Babajide Alo, FAS; Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Professor Duro Oni; Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Taiwo F. Ipaye, (MNIM), as well as the Director of Academic Planning Unit, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe and Director of Quality Assurance, Professor Solomon Okunuga.
In his address during the inauguration, the Vice-chancellor, Professor Rahamon A. Bello charged the committee to do a good job by restoring the confidence of members of the University Community in the system. He expressed optimism that the Committee would present a balanced assessment of the challenges facing University staff.
The Chairperson of the committee is Professor (Mrs.) F.A.D. Oyekanmi (Department of Sociology) while the Secretary is Mrs. Oribayo, Helen (Academic Staff Unit). Other members of the Committee are Professor O. Omidiji (Department of Cell Biology) and Professor A. Fagbenro-Beyioku (Department of Med. Micro & Parasitology). The terms of reference of the body are as follows:
  • To examine complaints and petitions on various issues as it relates to staff of the University.
  • To evaluate any other related issues that may be forwarded to the Committee.
  • To advise Management on how to properly address all complaints/petitions.
