Sanders wins in three States but Delegates Rally Behind Clinton

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders claimed political momentum in the Democratic presidential race Sunday after scoring lopsided victories in Saturday caucuses in Alaska, Hawaii and Washington State.

But delegate math continued to favor rival Hillary Clinton as the campaign headed toward the Wisconsin primary on April 5 and the New York primary on April 19. The former secretary of State now leads Sanders among pledged delegates by 1,243 to 975, according to the Associated Press. When unpledged "superdelegates" are included, her lead stretches to 1,712 to 1,004. Needed for nomination: 2,383.

"We have won five of the six last contests in landslide fashion," Sanders said on NBC's Meet the Press, then referred to himself in the third person. "I think a lot of the superdelegates are now beginning to look at which Democratic candidate is the best place to defeat Donald Trump. I think some of them are beginning to understand that it's Bernie Sanders."

With all precincts reporting, Sanders trounced Clinton by 81.6%-18.4% in Alaska; 69.8%-30% in Hawaii, and 72.7% to 27.1% in Washington State. Democratic rules require that delegates be allocated proportionately, making it harder for Sanders to make up the deficit he faces against Clinton than under GOP rules that allow winner-take-all contests.

Suicide Bomber Kills 65, Hospitalise Hundreds durin Easter Celebration

 A suicide bomber killed at least 65 people, mostly women and children, at a park in Lahore on Sunday in an attack claimed by a Pakistani Taliban faction which said it had targeted Christians.

The explosion occurred in the parking area of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park close to children's swings. The park is a popular site for members of Lahore's Christian community, many of whom had gone there to celebrate the Easter weekend holiday.

Witnesses said they saw body parts strewn across the parking lot once the dust had settled after the blast.

"When the blast occurred, the flames were so high they reached above the trees and I saw bodies flying in the air," said Hasan Imran, 30, a resident who had gone to Gulshan-e-Iqbal Park for a walk.

Officials said 65 people were killed and about 300 wounded. Police Superintendant Mustansar Feroz said most of the casualities were women and children.

The Taliban faction Jamaat-ul-Ahrar claimed responsibility for the attack.

"The target was Christians," a spokesman for the faction, Ehsanullah Ehsan, said. "We want to send this message to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that we have entered Lahore."

"He can do what he wants but he won't be able to stop us. Our suicide bombers will continue these attacks."

Islamist militants in Pakistan have attacked Christians and other religious minorities often over the past decade. Many Christians accuse the government of doing little to protect them, saying politicians are quick to offer condolences after an attack but slow to take any concrete steps to improve security.

The troops intercepted 2 female suicide bombers at about 1.20am this morning, almost 100 metres south of Umurari village, outskirts of Maiduguri. However, one of the suicide bombers on sighting own troops detonated her explosive device, killing herself instantly, while the second bomber in an attempt to escape was gunned down by one of the Garrison snipers."

 It also added that "The combined team of Nigeria Police and Nigerian Army’s Explosive Ordinance Device team safely detonated the unexploded Improvised Explosive Devices strapped on the gunned down suicide bomber."

 In allaying the fear of the masses it says "It is important to state that there was no casualty beyond the two suicide bombers. Presently, the troops and the Civilian JTF deployed in the village are now combing the general area to forestall further breach of security."

 The situation in the area is calm and law abiding citizens are going about their normal activities without fear.

Two Americans killed at Brussels Attack

US Secretary of State, John Kerry, visits Brussels, Belgium to sympathize with the Belgians and also two Americans that lost their lives in the recent terrorism attack in the country. Speaking after meeting Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel, Kerry said the "United States is praying and grieving with you for the loved ones of those cruelly taken from us, including Americans, and for the many who were injured in these despicable attacks." Kerry did not offer specific details, but a senior official said the families of two Americans had been informed of their deaths in the attacks Tuesday. The official, who was not authorized to speak to the matter publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity, did not have further details. The bombings killed 31 people and wounded 270. Kerry landed earlier Friday at the still-closed Brussels airport for his brief visit from Moscow, where he said the attacks underscored the urgency of unity in the fight against the Islamic State.

Households use Polluting Fuels for Cooking- WHO

World Health Organisation has reported that the use of polluting fuels for home cooking, lighting and heating is the single most important environmental health risk world wide.

The  exposure of  women  and children to this hazard are particularly high making them number victims  to this menace.

According to statistics from WHO websites "Almost 3.1 billion people still rely on polluting, inefficient energy systems such as biomass, coal or kerosene to meet their daily cooking needs – a number virtually unchanged over the past decade. And too many households still depend on polluting fuels and devices for heating and lighting – particularly kerosene."

WHO also says that "Women and girls bear the largest health burden not only from domestic pollution sources, but often also from related fuel-gathering tasks. For instance, available survey data from 13 countries showed that girls in sub-Saharan African homes with polluting cookstoves spend about 18 hours weekly collecting fuel or water, while boys spend 15 hours. In homes mainly using cleaner stoves and fuels, girls spend only 5 hours weekly collecting fuel or water, and boys just 2 hours."

Soyombo: Lagos State do not need teachers for now

                The Director of Lagos State Education Quality Assurance Unit, Mrs. Ronke Soyombo, described the various adverts on social media that Lagos State Ministry of Education are in need of teachers as scam. She made this known at the 2015 United Nations International Youth Day organized by Strategy Mentoring International for Leadership Empowerment (SMILE) in collaboration with United Nations Information Centre, Lagos recently.

A major US conservative forum has dropped Donald Trump as a speaker, saying it was unacceptable for him to suggest that a journalist was tough on him because she was menstruating.

Mr Trump said Megyn Kelly of Fox News "had blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever".

Ms Kelly had challenged him on remarks he made about women during a TV debate.

Amid the controversy it emerged that Mr Trump's top political adviser had left his campaign.

Mr Trump said he had sacked Roger Stone. But Mr Stone later tweeted that the Republican contender "didn't fire me - I fired Trump", adding that he disagreed with the "diversion" created by the comments about Ms Kelly.

Mr Trump was one of 10 Republican presidential candidates in a TV debate co-hosted by Ms Kelly on Thursday, which was watched by a record 24 million people.

Early on in the debate, Ms Kelly asked him why voters should elect a man who has called women "fat pigs, dogs, slobs and disgusting animals".

Mr Trump joked that he only said that about TV personality Rosie O'Donnell before adding: "I don't have time for total political correctness."

Conservative group RedState said Mr Trump was implying she was hormonal. Mr Trump later denied this in a tweet.

A later statement from his campaign said "only a deviant" would think Mr Trump meant anything else.

The prediction has been made many times before, but his disinvitation from the RedState conference here in Atlanta shows that the grass-roots conservative movement may be joining the party establishment in turning against the real estate mogul.

On Friday morning RedState host Erick Erickson took the stage to explain his decision, saying he didn't want his daughter to be in the same room with Trump.

"It's not political correctness," he added, "it's common decency."

Talk in the hallways outside the conference echoed these concerns.

In a statement, RedState chief and powerful conservative activist Erick Erickson said "there are even lines blunt talkers [...] should not cross".

"It is unfortunate to have to disinvite him. But I just don't want someone on stage who gets a hostile question from a lady and his first inclination is to imply it was hormonal," he added.

"There is no way to otherwise interpret Mr Trump's comment," he said.

Carly Fiorina, the only female Republican candidate, joined the criticism of Mr Trump, tweeting : "There. Is. No. Excuse" shortly after the CNN interview.

She then tweeted: "I stand with @megynkelly."

Mr Trump's campaign responded to RedState's move by saying it was "another example of weakness through being politically correct".

Mr Trump is ahead of the 16 other Republican candidates in several recent polls despite making several controversial remarks since launching his president campaign.

Brazilian anti-corruption radio DJ shot dead live on air

Arsene Wenger claims it has been "impossible" for Arsenal to win the Premier League in the past because of financial constraints.

Universities are allowed to go higher than the 180 Cut off mark- JAMB

Following the rancour at the University of Lagos on Wednesday morning over admission scores, the spokesperson of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, Fabian Benjamin, has said universities are allowed to go above the National admission examination cut off mark.
JAMB had announced 180 as the cut off score for admission into degree programmes and 150 for national certificate in education, national diploma and national innovation diplomas.
But explaining to PREMIUM TIMES, Mr. Benjamin said a university, depending on its peculiarities , can raise its cut off mark above the national recommendation of 180.
In the early hours of Wednesday, hundreds of Unified Matriculation Examination candidates stormed the University of Lagos to protest the decision of the institution to stop candidates from writing the forthcoming post UTME.
Many candidates with their parents gathered at the university gates as early as 7 a.m. chanting solidarity songs, demanding the removal of the JAMB registrar, Dibu Ojerinde.
Fred Enejo, a candidate, told PREMIUM TIMES that students were prevented from writing the examination to secure admission into the university.
“We were stopped at the gate simply because we got below 250 which they claim is the schools cut-off mark,” he said.
But Mr. Benjamin, explained that the University of Lagos decided that their cut off point should be 250 as a means of getting the best candidates.
“If the University of Lagos has over 25,000 students applying and they have a carrying capacity of less than 7,000 and has over 15,000 candidates that scored over 250, why will they take less than 250. It simply means the university is trying to see how they can get the best,” Mr. Benjamin said.
He said there was nothing wrong with what the universitydid as there will come a time when schools will fix cut off scores at 300.
Mr. Benjamin added that JAMB will not take anything less than what was officially announced as the cut-off score.

Okey Emordi sacked as Kano Pillars coach

Okey Emordi has been fired as Kano Pillars coach after his side played a 3-3 draw against Lobi Stars in Makurdi. The reigning league champions gave up a three-goal lead to let the hosts snatch a point in the keenly contested affair at the Aper Aku Stadium.
